Injuries can’t derail Cockburn’s dream

Karen Cockburn missed a World Cup trampoline competition earlier in the month in Sazgitter, Germany due to injuries.

But the 31-year-old Stouffville resident and three-time Canadian Olympic medallist said those physical setbacks won’t prevent her from pursuing a fourth summer Olympic appearance in London, England next year.

Cockburn was recovering from a bout of plantar fasciitis and a sore back.

Both injuries, she said, stemmed from overtraining.

“The plantar fasciitis is a chronic thing with me. It’s been hard to get rid of and still hurts,” she said.

As for her back ailment, Cockburn revealed it came about after taking one month off to heal her plantar fasciitis.

Upon returning to the trampoline during a training session she took a hard fall. It was the result of being inactive and attempting to get her timing back, she said.

Cockburn is well again and training for the next World Cup event in Denmark Oct. 8 and 9.

“It’s almost been one thing after another,” she said. “But hopefully things will continue to improve.”
